SHML Academic Programs and Internships

 

SHML offers Students the possibility of 4 unique Swiss Diplomas and an English Bachelor degree.

All of the course programs have been designed by professional hoteliers with an extensive operational experience in executive management of international hotels and resorts as well as professional hospitality educators’ and academicians, plus the relevant state of the art material and management substances.

The SHML course programs are recognized by the hospitality industry and specifically by GHM (General Hotel Management), Orient Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises, Swiss Belhotels International, Pearl Resorts & Spas (South Pacific Management) and Genesis Hotels and Resorts which combined own and operate over two hundred deluxe hotels and resorts worldwide.

SHML Diploma in Hotel Operations  (2 years: comprising 2 semesters and 2 internships)

Program designed for students whose main aim is fast track access to first employment, with a baggage of hospitality knowledge that cover the entire hotel operation, including guest contact, supervisory activities, management theories and state of the art applications. Although the program is conceptualized for students to progress within luxury hotels and resorts, customised attention will be provided for those participants who intend to work within small to medium size hotels, institutional operations, individual restaurants, or for students who may aspire to set up their own F&B operation.

The program remains on track for progression toward the Associate Degree in Hotel Management.

Higher Diploma in Hotel Management (2 years: comprising 2 semesters and 2 internships)

Program designed for students committed to qualify and complete a Bachelor Degree within 3 years. The 2 years at Lenk will be very demanding, requiring focus, dedication to studies and additional applications, often in lieu of leisure time plus marked course work during the internships. This, to ensure high marks for a successful 3rd year at the University of Gloucestershire.

Associate Degree in International Hotel and Resort Management (AHM)

(3 years: comprising 3 semesters and 3 internships)

Program designed as the SHML “BLUE RIBBON” course, allowing students to progress toward the Bachelor degree at a normal pace, with one extra year to master the entire range of hospitality applications, including one additional internship. On conclusion of this professional management course, graduates are ready to enter the industry with confidence. Upon graduating at Lenk, students can either continue with their studies for the top up Bachelor degree or return to do the top up BA at a later date when they have had real time industry management experience.

Post Graduate Diploma in International Hotel Management

(1 ½ years: comprising 1 semester, 1 trimester and 1 internship (1 additional internship is optional).

Program characterized by content entirely dedicated to hospitality, including management theory, case studies and supporting software, to ensure focus and customized attention for participants’ best possible returns.  The outcomes are challenging, set by professional hoteliers who will also be involved in knowledge transfer and assessment.

Program designed for participants of different profiles: a) Graduates who decided to diverge from their first professional choice in favour of hospitality; b) Hospitality practitioners who decided to widen their professional knowledge, thus optimizing their progression options within hospitality hierarchy; c) Individual entrepreneurs or owners who decided to discover the essential of hospitality management in view of their future venture as hospitality owners.

Top up MBA - University of Gloucestershire (UoG), UK

SHML has a managed progression agreement with this prestigious university. Students who earned the Higher Diploma or Associate Degree, if eligible, will be accepted at UoG for one additional academic year (37 weeks) for their Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Strategic Hospitality Management. Upon achieving the Post Grad Diploma, if eligible, participants will be accepted at UoG for a Master program.

Internships

SHML programs follow the Swiss tradition of alternating academic semesters with practice within the industry. These internships are planned and coordinated by the College, to ensure a relevant experience to the courses the students have qualified from.

SHML is unique in Switzerland as it allows students to either do their internships in Switzerland or with one of our international hotel partner companies anywhere in the World where they operate hotels or resorts. The SHML students also have the opportunity of being sponsored by these companies to start their careers as trainee executive managers
