Junior Camp

Program designed for Grade 9-students and above whose main aim—as agreed by their parents— is to spend 1-4 weeks abroad, in a healthy and secure environment, for the achievement of the following objectives:

  • Experience Switzerland, in a pristine and secure Germanic environment: Gstaad/Lenk
  • Receive tuitions in a foreign language: English
  • Practice hospitality skills within an operational campus
  • Develop interpersonal relationships
  • Develop learning skills and proper attitudes
  • Discover specific aspects of the local culture through guided excursions
  • Combine leisure with the discovery and respect of nature

Qualification: Junior High School or equivalent
English level: IELTS 3

Course Program:

Experiencing Switzerland: The Bernese Oberland is an exclusive location patronized by the wealthy and famous. The reasons for choice are security, predictability, reliability, health, nature, infrastructure, peace.

Communication skills: Students will be spoken to in English, and receive English tuitions in accordance to their levels.

Hospitality skills: SHML is a Campus engaged in hospitality operations (Commercial Hotels and Restaurants) and hospitality education (Undergraduate Program). All students are therefore exposed to real life from the two perspectives (Operations and Education).

Junior students will be led to discover and experience hospitality through the acquisition of basic skills, within Service, Production and Housekeeping environments.

Interpersonal relationships: Hospitality relies on absolute cooperation between departments. Junior students will be exposed to the concept of interdepartmental and interpersonal relationships.

Developing learning skills and corresponding attitudes: Acquiring skills implies coherent conjunction with knowledge and corresponding attitude. Junior students will be exposed to the concept of harmonious learning with thought and style.

Local culture: Swiss society is multilingual and therefore multicultural. Junior students will discover, through guided and educated excursions, a real example of harmonious society.

Leisure and nature: The Bernese Highlands (Oberland) is a destination recognized for the quality and respect for the environment. Junior students will be accompanied for long walks through the hills, on bicycle trips, to swimming exercises and other leisure activities.

Fees:

CHF 1.250.- per week, including accommodation in dormitory, full board and excursions but excluding health & accident insurance, travel and visa costs.
