Internships

Today the international hospitality industry on a global scale is one of the largest and fastest growing businesses in the World, and there are many opportunities across the globe for well trained hospitality students to become proficient executive hotel managers in both the developed and emerging markets. SHML aims at following the trend of offering a wide array of internships’ option to its own students, but also to follow up on the commitment to care of individual needs. This is made possible thanks to the support by partner hotel companies who have agreed to cooperate for appropriate internship opportunities. It remains the students responsability to find a place for the internship. SHML  assists our students to find the suitable place.

The 5 to 7 month internship in an SHML approved operation is integral part of your education program. A successful completion with a reference letter from the employer is required to obtain the final graduation documents.
 

International Internships

Students will have the opportunity of doing their practical training with any one of our partner hotel companies. This international link is optimized when the internship program is receiving support from SHML’s management proprietors, allowing students a facilitated access to exclusive opportunities. For example, students wishing to join Orient-Express as their preferred company, could begin their internship program at the famous Hotel Cipriani in Venice, the second internship on the world famous train “Venice Simplon Orient Express” and the third internship on their deluxe Cruise Ship “ The Road to Mandalay”. The same concept would apply for the other partnership hotel companies. On completion of SHML program and internships at a preferred company, students would have every chance of starting their new management career with the company in which they trained in and therefore saving valuable time in career planning.

Swiss Internships

Internships in Switzerland are much in demand, especially by students who want or need to be remunerated for their work, or intend to explore further the Swiss standards of practice. Internships are carefully planned, to ensure the right experience, but also a pleasant location, which may be in a city, by a lake, or mountain resort. Another important aspect is language preference, reflecting students’ desire to be exposed to Germanic or Latin cultures. However, due to excessive requests, finding a suitable internship remains a challenge calling for a significant effort by the students, mainly because of national language requirements: German, French and Italian.

Irrespective of whether the internship is taking place in Switzerland or abroad, what matters is the Internship actual plan and program self management, in view of optimizing the acquisition of skills, but also to experience and gain confidence with guests’ contacts.
